Mandatory Participation Form

National PTA requires each state to track the number of PTAs that participated and the total number of works entered in the state’s program.

Therefore, all units are required to submit a participation form to the next level of judging along with their winning artwork. There are forms for local, council, and district/region PTAs. (Contact your state PTA office or go to PTAreflections.org to access the forms.)

Label each Participation Form in the bottom right corner with the following label in lower case letters exactly in this order:

state abbreviation.participation.level. full PTA name

Example: md.participation.local.perryville elementary school PTA
Example: wa.participation.local.point defiance elementary school PTA

Send an electronic copy to your next level up WSPTA Reflections chair:  Tmbart316m@hotmail.com then email an electronic copy to the National PTA at Reflections@pta.org.

IMPORTANT F.Y.I.

Hi Folks,

I just wanted to remind you that the National ID # sent to you may not be 8 digits long and if not, you would put the amount of zero's in front of the number to make it 8 digits long. For example, your id # was 234567 you would add 2 zeros in front so that it reads 00234567.

Also, National is loosening its requirement on the flv. formatting. Entries will be accepted that are formatted according to previous years requirements.

Thanks for all you do for kids and in support of the arts!!!!!

Dee Dee Loberg
Program Director
Washington State PTA

**Video file formats accpeted last year: .mpeg, .mov, and .wmv.  Must be a computer file and not a DVD format (Should not play automatically when opened in computer).

Message from DeeDee Loberg, WSPTA Program Director  September 9, 2011

I do not have a document at this time that lists the changes. Here are the key changes to read up on in the Reflections Handbook available in the Leadership Resources part of our web-site. You can access this by clicking on the Leadership Packet and scrolling down to Reflections Handbook.

Key changes:

1. Mandatory Title

2. Mandatory Artist Statement

3. Mandatory Consent forms for everyone that may be in pictures or voice recordings etc.

4. Mandatory Participation Form sent to National from Local Units

5. New formatting of Dance/Choreography, Film/Video

6. New Labeling requirements

7. New Packaging requirements

This information can be located in the handbook starting I believe, on page 26. We will work on getting those black spots off the forms ASAP for downloading and distributing. Until then the white-out that Karen suggested is needed.

Below is some additional information on accessing the Leadership Resources.

To access the members only section go to

UPDATED REFLECTIONS GUIDE NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE, AND IT WILL BE IN YOUR HANDS SOON (From Leadership News 9/3/11)

As mentioned in last week's Leadership News, we will be mailing an updated Reflections Guide to every local unit sometime later this week,  However both the Guide and all forms are now available online at the Washington State PTA website, with forms under the Programs tab (click on Reflections) and the Guide itself under the Leadership Resources tab (password needed).

DID YOU NOTICE THAT YOUR LEADERSHIP PACKET DID NOT INCLUDE A REFLECTIONS GUIDE?  HERE'S WHY

As reported previously, there are some significant changes in the Reflections program requirements as recently promulgated by National PTA.  As a result we were not able to compile the Reflections Guide that has typically been included with the Leadership Packet each unit receives from Washington State PTA each year.  However, do not despair-we will be mailing a guide to each local unit shortly before or after Labor Day, along with the information about the upcoming Legislative Assembly.  Both will be sent in the same envelope addressed to the President of each local unit and Council, which is yet one more reason to make sure that we have your correct information in our database.  If there is more than one person listed as President (i.e. you have co-Presidents) we will send your copy to the person listed first alphabetically by last name.

National PTA has announced that the Grant Elementary PTA of Tacoma has been awarded one of three Mary Lou Anderson Reflections Arts Enrichment Grants for 2011.   The Mary Lou Anderson Reflections Arts Enhancement Grant Program complements PTA's long-standing commitment to quality arts education by providing funds to local PTAs to establish or enhance arts programs in one or more arts areas: visual arts, photography, music (including dance), and literature (including theater).  Together with the grant that Alderwood PTA of Bellingham won in 2009 this is the second Washington PTA to receive a Mary Lou Anderson grant in the past three years.  Congratulations to all of those involved at Grant PTA!!

Message from Wendy Tumbleson, WSPTA Reflections Chair  October 25, 2010
It has been brought to my attention that the guidelines for musical composition form says: Review or download complete rules and tips for quality recordings at www.wastatepta.org/Programs/Reflections.  Yet this link does not provide information.   The site will be corrected and we will add following information to the FAQ section of the website.

 Recommendations for Quality Recordings:

-Make the room you record in as quiet as possible.  Close windows and turn off all noise-making devices in the room (air conditioners, fans, telephones, etc.).  ----Do not place the recording devise on top of an instrument or speakers.

-Do not record at too loud a level (in the red zone on the meter) or too soft a level (meter barely moving).

-Record a short test and listen to it while watching the meter.  If needed, improve recording quality by changing the record volume or microphone location.

-Return to the beginning of the CD and record two seconds of silence; then start performing your composition.  Finish with another two seconds of silence.   Wendy Tumbleson WSPTA Reflections Chair
