“12 IN 2012” MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCED—AND THERE ARE TWO WAYS YOUR LOCAL UNIT CAN BE A WINNER!
12 new members in 2012 makes sense, right? All local units that enroll 12 new PTA/PTSA members between February 1st and May 25th will receive our newest membership certificate: the “12 in 2012” award. In addition, there’s a way for your local unit to win a free registration to the Washington State PTA Convention! The local unit that signs up the most NEW members between February 1st and April 12th will receive a “buy one, get one free” registration to the 2012 Washington State PTA Convention being held May 4 – 6 at the Doubletree Hotel at SeaTac. The free registration will include entry into our 3 day convention but will not include lodging or meals. The value of the free registration is approximately $150. As with any contest, there’s some fine print, and here it is: new members entered before February 1st will not be considered for either contest. If a local unit removes any members from its data base between February 1 – April 12, these deletions will be deducted from the overall new member total. Convention registration contest applies to members added beyond the minimum 25 necessary to be in good standing. In the case of a tie, the winner of the convention registration will be determined by drawing among tied units.

WSPTA Membership News
Week of September 27, 2011
REMINDER - BRONZE AWARD: members must be entered into the membership database by Sunday, Sept. 30 to count towards the Bronze level award. Bronze awards will be given to units that have enrolled 50% of their members from last year. Paid vs. enrolled. the assumption is that the local unit will be paying for those members. However, you do not need to send in payment for those members until the first membership payment on October 25th.
Question of the Week: Who signs the PTA membership cards?
Answer: each PTA member signs their own cards.
Membership - It's about Goals!
What's the secret is to a good membership campaign? It's about goal setting and sharing those goals. Membership is about getting those around you excited to be part of the PTA. When someone becomes a member, make them feel like they are part of the success of your PTA/PTSA in reaching the goal.
TO DO:
· Know what your membership numbers from last year so you can compare how you are doing this year.
· Set a goal and share it! Do you want more males to join PTA? Put it on your membership form you want to increase male member by 20% this year!
· Make sure every member of your Board knows how to give a 30 second "why should you join PTA" pitch
· At all times your exec team should know the current membership count and the % of students that represents.
· Celebrate your successes - posters, newsletters, emails, announcements, Facebook!
· Treat every member like they matter, because they do!

NATIONAL PTA PASSES DUES INCREASE FOR 2011-12.
After a vigorous debate, the delegates to last weekend's National PTA Convention gave their approval to a proposed fifty ($.50) cent increase in the National PTA portion of membership service fees. This means the combined total of required membership service fees for the 2011-12 fiscal year will be eight ($8.00) dollars per member, plus any applicable council fee. This is the first time that National PTA has increased its per member dues in more than 10 years, and will help address both rising costs and additional initiatives called for in the Association's Strategic Plan. The increase is applicable to all dues remitted to the state office and received after June 30th, 2011, even if the remittance is for dues unpaid from the 2010-11 fiscal year.
